Applications are invited for the position of Clinical Educator, within the Undergraduate Medical Education Team, based at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The salary is as per Agenda for Change Band 6.

The post holder will be an individual from a nursing, midwifery, allied health professional or medical discipline, who is a fully registered professional and has an interest in medical education. The post holder will be involved in the pastoral support and education of medical students from Years 1-5 of the University of Leeds, whilst also taking on leadership responsibilities for a particular year group or cohort of medical students. The post holder will also contribute to the education and pastoral support of student Physician Assistants. 

The post holder will work collaboratively to contribute to various aspects of the delivery of undergraduate medical education within the Trust, and wider with colleagues within Education and Training department.

Main duties of the job

·       Organising, planning and running of educational sessions for Medical, Physician Assistants and other students, in addition to trust staff.

·        Delivery of education on a range of medical education curriculum topics and clinical skills.

·       Facilitate innovative ways to teach, including bedside teaching, virtual teaching and simulation teaching.

·       Take part in assessment and feedback of students’ clinical skills and examine in the Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).

·       Responsible for a series of placement areas and will act as a link between these areas and the University of Leeds Medical School / University of Bradford Health Science School.

·       You will also be part of the wider team within the Education Service helping to facilitate the educational requirements of the Trust as a whole.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Design, plan and deliver teaching to medical students to meet the requirements of the curriculum.
  • Lead on the placement co-ordination, linking in with clinical areas.
  • Lead on the teaching programme design for a designated year group/cohort of students.
  • Assure quality and governance by reviewing feedback from learners.
  • Network with external stakeholders (e.g. HEI's).
  • Provide pastoral support to learners who are on placement.
  • In-reach in clinical areas to provide education at the patients' bedside.
  • Contribute to the assessment of students and provide feedback.
  • Promote and participate in multi-professional learning.
  • Maintain professional credibility and own CPD.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of two years NHS experience in a healthcare profession involving patient contact.
  • Nursing, Midwifery, Medical clinical experience
  • Previous experience of teaching and supporting learners
