Job overview

To provide a comprehensive physical health service as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to prisoners with physical health needs within the Secure Environments Business Unit. In conjunction with the management team contribute to and deliver a comprehensive Primary Health Service in partnership with mental health and key stakeholders as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the prison setting. The role of the Registered Nurse is to undertake health assessments, administer medication and treatments, perform diagnostic tests as appropriate and to provide and evaluate a range of health interventions to meet prisoner health and social care needs. The post holder will be required to work flexibly across the service to provide responsive, evidence-based interventions working alongside physical and mental health clinical teams. Demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding of health issues and treatment options to provide primary care within the prison preventing transfer to outside hospital where possible. The post holder should also have a keen interest in developing knowledge and skills across the integrated services. The post holder will be expected to undertake safeguarding training appropriate to their role and adhere to policies and procedures relevant to the area they work in. 

Main duties of the job

Working closely with our management team and key stakeholders, you will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive primary care health service.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, undertaking physical health assessments of patients, planning care and providing a range of health treatments/interventions.

You will support patients to address issues that affect their own health, behaviour and social welfare

Manage competing priorities and react to unforeseen circumstances, incidents and emergency situations.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Level 1 – Adult / General/Mental Health
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship / supervision/teaching / assessing experience/ training

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of current healthcare issues
  • Knowledge of clinical governance audit, risk management and quality agenda
  • Competent in clinical practice e.g., phlebotomy, ECG monitoring
  • Worked in a complex environment managing deteriorating patients
  • Understanding and application of confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a Health & Justice environment.
  • Experience of health needs assessment/Triage
  • Experience in working in general practice
  • Management / Minor Injuries
  • Experience of using SystmOne or willing to undertake training
