Job overview
With a team of committed, caring and experienced midwives, we are looking for a like minded individual to lead our community maternity team. We offer a friendly, supportive and safe service for women, their partners, babies and their families.
We are looking for a dynamic Community Clinical Lead Midwife to manage our out community maternity service based at Salisbury District Hospital. The role of the Community Clinical Lead Midwife is to work as part of the Community Maternity team, ensuring safe effective evidence based midwifery care for women and their families. You will work collaboratively with the outpatient maternity matron, obstetricians, specialist midwives, midwifery assistants, GPs, health visitors to ensure the smooth running of the service. You will need to have excellent communication skills to enable you to work effectively with the multidisciplinary team. The role will also include a clinical element and participation in the duty manager rota.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will promote a holistic approach to maternity care and provide effective management and supportive midwifery leadership to the community midwifery teams.
- The post holder will work as an autonomous clinical midwife and advise staff working in the area, acting as an effective role model and leader.
- The post holder will provide clinical, professional, and managerial leadership and will have responsibility for the efficient running of the community services, including maternity hubs.
- The post holder will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to improve the health of women and children in line with the Public Health agenda.
- The post holder will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of clinical care is achieved by efficient and effective use of resources, liaising with other agencies, organising, and ensuring supervision of practice, and teaching of staff and students.
- The post holder will take an active part in implementing the recommendation of national reports such as The Ockenden Report.
- The post holder will be expected to participate in the duty manager rota.

Essential criteria
- Registered midwife currently registered to practice in the UK
- Mentorship preparation or equivalent
- NIPE trained practitioner
Desirable criteria
- Recognised leadership course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Qualified as a band 6 midwife for ≥5 years
- Recent leadership or management experience
- Clinical midwifery experience in all areas of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care
- Recent NHS experience as a registrant for more than 5 years
Desirable criteria
- Recent experience of working in community maternity setting
