Are you passionate about improving quality and safety in midwifery? We are looking for an exceptional midwife with a proven track record working within a safety and quality portfolio who can provide clinical oversight and leadership
The maternity matron for safety and quality will provide visible leadership, drive continuous improvement and education, in addition to supporting delivery of safe, evidence‑based and person‑centred care. Key responsibilities include oversight of governance processes, leading safety and quality improvement initiatives, supporting staff development and education, and championing patient experience.
The role requires strong leadership skills, operational management experience and the ability to work with colleagues and to influence multidisciplinary teams.
The Matron for Safety and Quality will focusing on developing the safety culture, risk management, clinical governance, a high standard of clinical care and positive service user and staff experience
Working closely with the senior Maternity and Neonatal multi-disciplinary leadership team, the post holder will facilitate evidence based effective clinical care pathways, providing clinical and professional leadership to the clinical teams in relation to achieving a safe and effective service
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a key member of the senior Maternity and Neonatal leadership team within the Family and Specialist Services Division and will be responsible for coordinating quality, safety, governance and education in accordance with local, regional, and national assurance frameworks to support the delivery of safe maternity care.
The post holder will support the senior Maternity and Neonatal leadership team with the overview and coordinating function for leading and developing the approach to Maternity quality, assurance and safety requirements in line with national and regulatory requirements.

Essential
Essential criteria
- Practising / NMC registered midwife with at least 3 years post registration experience
- Significant clinical post registration experience as a registered midwife
- Evidence of knowledge of Maternity Governance
- Experience of reporting and presenting complex data analysis in a variety of reports and media, including oral presentations
- Experience in using PowerPoint, spreadsheets, databases and word processing
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and competing demands
- Extensive knowledge of NHS Resolution / Three Year Delivery Plan/Saving Babies Lives standards/ Maternal Care Bundle and process and other external regulatory organisations for Maternity and Neonatal Services
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of National and Local NHS and Midwifery agenda relating to risk and Governance
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Quality Improvement training or qualification
- Experience of influencing internal change
- Experience of clinical audit and research
- A Masters level qualification relevant to the role
