Job overview

The Systemic Anti Cancer Treatment (SACT) Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will form part of the Oncology multi-professional team whose aim is to deliver and co-ordinate expert holistic care and advice for patients with a solid cancer diagnosis being treated with SACT, their families and carers and the wider MDT.

The post holder will undertake Nurse Led Clinics for 2-3 tumour sites working closely with medical and nursing colleagues. You will undertake pre-assessments, holistic assessments and consent patients for SACT, assess patients prior to cycles of treatment and manage patients on oral chemotherapy and immunotherapy.  

The SACT CNS will be an expert practitioner within the speciality and have the ability to manage complex clinical situations therefore Oncology and SACT  experience is essential with comprehensive knowledge of cancer and treatment related emergency conditions.

Prescribing and history taking and physical examination are essential to the role.

Essential criteria
  • Registered adult nurse
  • Accredited SACT course
  • Oncology/haematology experience as band 6 or above
  • SACT administration
  • Experience of Venous Access and Cannulation, central venous access devices.
  • Ability to influence and manage change, including the promotion of evidence based practice
  • Knowledge of cytotoxic policy
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration qualification in oncology/haematology/acute oncology
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake
  • Participating in nurse led SACT clinic
  • Experience of central line insertion
  • Advanced HAPI
