Job overview

Band 6 Midwife - Full time (37.5 hrs) 

An opportunity has arisen for us to recruit  additional midwives to cover Maternity leave to our team on the Maternity Assessment Centre which includes Antenatal Clinic/Triage/Day Assessment Unit .

This unit supports approximately 20,000 episodes of care per year for women who have high risk pregnancies allowing them to be cared for as an outpatient which enables women to remain at home with their families.

This role also involves working with the Obstetric team in consultant led Antenatal clinics and the newly set up Maternity Assessment Unit.

The job role is a fast pace of decision making, autonomous practice with medical cover when require in depth knowledge of a wide range of ante natal complications as well as core midwifery assessment skills in Triage.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to provide holistic midwifery care to women/birthing people and babies in the antenatal, Intrapartum and postnatal periods.

This includes to newly created Maternity Assessment Centre comprising ANC, Day assessment unit and Triage

The midwifery care is provided both in hospital, birth centre and community settings including the management of individual caseloads, clients and/or ward areas.

The post holder will deputise for the Band 7 in all clinical areas. The role is multidimensional and requires the post holder to integrate and fulfil all the identified dimensions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assess, implement and evaluate programmes of antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and neonatal care for women and babies (within their family unit) in line with current evidence, Trust policies, guidelines and the Code.
Provide appropriate advice, knowledge and counselling to women and their partners regarding all aspects of antenatal, intrapartum (including home births) and postpartum care.
To act as an advocate for the women and babies receiving maternity care.
Demonstrate appropriate behaviour/attitude (helpful, kind, caring, compassionate and respectful) when dealing with service users and colleagues, acts as a professional role model for other staff in accordance with the NMC Code (2015).
Provide parenting education, advice on health issues, and support in altering health behaviours, thereby improving health and wellbeing.

  • Maintained an up to date professional portfolio
  • Training in obstetric emergencies
  • To have obtained or be studying to degree level (or diploma with equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching/Mentoring qualification

Experience

  • Recent experience in all aspects of midwifery practice
  • Competencies relevant to sphere of practice.
  • Experience within UK maternity services

  • Evidence of further study and development of professional and academic skills
