FIXED TERM CONTRACT - 36 MONTHS

We are seeking an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, with demonstrable experience in autonomous practice, to work across our SACT services. The post holder will provide expertise in their area of clinical practice, professional leadership and education in the field of Oncology. You will be joining a forward thinking and dedicated team where patient experience and excellence in care is our priority.

This new role forms part of our development of SACT services, bridging the gap between acute care and oncology services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. We are inviting applications from Advanced Clinical Practitioners who can demonstrate innovation in practice to improve patient outcomes, with experience of managing cancer-related complications and acute complex conditions.

 

Main duties of the job

As part of a multi – professional team the post holder will work at advanced level clinical practice, operating autonomously and practicing collaboratively whilst demonstrating accountability and self-direction in line with the relevant code of professional conduct. 

The post holder will be a clinical leader in their sphere of practice over a predefined period, enabling innovative solutions to the care and experience of practice. The post holder will demonstrate advanced levels of clinical judgement and diagnostic reasoning in order to provide a differential diagnosis. 

The post holder will be able to work within a high-pressured environment.
The post holder will have knowledge and skills within oncology diseases and treatments, within a specified area, enabling them to undertake advanced practice supported by a clinical supervisor. Additional skills and knowledge will be attained within their specialist area enabling the post holder to manage patients receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) with a lead role in managing patients experiencing complications of Immuno-Oncology treatments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will utilise specialist skills and knowledge as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner to autonomously manage patients undergoing SACT in all clinical environments.

The post holder will possess the skills and knowledge to be able to assess individuals and families using person-centred approaches and a range of assessment methods including history taking, physical examination, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests or conducting health needs assessment.
Apply advanced clinical-reasoning skills to conduct comprehensive assessments of presenting complaints, instigate and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop both working and differential diagnoses. Take responsibility for formulating, communicating, implementing, and evaluate the effectiveness of management plans.

Use a diverse range of knowledge to achieve competence in evidence based therapeutic interventions, which will include prescribing medication (where legally allowed) and actively monitoring their effectiveness.

To promote value-based clinical decision making, critically evaluating and appropriately applying, their knowledge and skills in a person-centered way.

You will be instrumental in the development and implementation of local and network wide management and treatment protocols and pathways, challenging predetermined protocols or workplace imperatives where necessary.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or Degree General or Adult Nursing
  • Level 1 Registered Nurse NMC
  • Master’s degree in advanced clinical practice
  • Registered Non-Medical Prescriber
  • Oncology/Haematology qualification or equivalent
  • Leadership qualification
  • SACT qualification or equivalent experience
  • Advanced Communication Skills
  • Psychological level 2 training
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Research in practice
  • Coaching techniques
  • Quality improvement training
  • IRMER certificate
  • Acute Oncology qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in specialty at band 7 or above
  • Demonstrable understanding of current issues within cancer nursing
  • Involvement of codesign with patients in service development
  • Clear and demonstrable evidence, at a senior level, of competent practice in the management of patients undergoing SACT
  • Evidence of multi-professional, interagency, cross boundary working
  • Evidence of innovative and change management practices
  • Evidence of audit and actioned outcomes
  • Experience of running nurse led clinics
  • Clear leadership and management experience
  • Evidence of educational programmes and staff development
  • Experience of working within other sectors of the NHS and cancer networks
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of research, either individual or as part of the team
  • Evidence of involvement in service users’ advocacy and complaints resolution.
