At the Great Western Hospital we're seeking compassionate, motivated individuals to join our dynamic healthcare team. As a Healthcare Support Worker, you'll be at the heart of patient care—working alongside experienced professionals in a fast-paced environment that empowers you to grow personally and professionally.
This role is offered on either a full-time or part-time basis, giving you flexibility to balance your career with your lifestyle.
- You’ll be expected to work the full spectrum of shifts, which includes long days, long nights, and weekend working.
- Each shift lasts 11 hours and 45 minutes, and we do not operate short shifts. Flexibility and commitment to covering all shift types is essential as this position does not support individual adjustments to working hours

- Structured career development - This role is part of a structured development pathway, offering the opportunity to progress from Band 2 to Band 3 upon successful completion of the Care Certificate, which covers 15 nationally recognised standards and includes observational training to build your clinical competencies.
Main duties of the job
This advert applies to general recruitment across the hospital; shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a Maths and English assessment centre, and those who successfully complete this will proceed to an interview, during which they will have the opportunity to express a ward preference.
What You'll Do:
Perform a wide range of essential tasks including:
- Deliver Personal care and hygiene assistance (including catheter and incontinence care)
- Nutrition, hydration and pressure area care
- Collaborate closely with Senior Sisters, Charge Nurses, and team leaders
- Documentation and environmental upkeep
- Safe patient movement and escorting between departments
- Emergency response activation and clinical prep

An Assistant Health Care Support Worker (AHCSW) is a core member of the team delivering personal care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to deliver high quality, compassionate care.
You will carry out a range of non-clinical healthcare tasks, under the direct supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner. Your role is to provide compassionate care, to agreed quality standards and in accordance with Trust values.

Essential criteria
- GCSE A*-D in Mathematics or equivalent
- Able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills at interview assessment.
- GCSE A*-D in English Language or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Level 2 in Health & Social care (NVQ, QCF, RQF)
- Level 2 NVQ in Healthcare Health & Social Care
- Level 2 QCF Diploma in Clinical Healthcare support
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of time management and prioritising work.
- Evidence of ability to work as a member of a team
Desirable criteria
- Prior experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting
