Sonographer
Band 7
Job overview
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a qualified Reporting Sonographer to join our progressive team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, with additional opportunities to work across our Community Hospitals in Chirk and Deeside—providing a varied and rewarding caseload.
As a Band 7 Sonographer, you will work collaboratively with senior colleagues to enhance and develop the Ultrasound service, ensuring it remains patient-centred, safe, and responsive to the evolving needs of the Health Board and local communities.
Our team includes a mix of experienced Sonographers and Radiographic Assistants, creating a supportive environment for professional development. The team is known for its professionalism, strong peer support, and commitment to delivering high-quality patient care. The service offers flexibility, including the option to work extended days to support service delivery and work-life balance.
The majority of our ultrasound machines have been purchased within the last two years and we follow the Canadian Equipment Lifecycle standards. The department uses the ‘Trophon 2’ system for probe decontamination, ensures chaperone support is present for all examinations, and provides dedicated imaging couches in every ultrasound room.
Main duties of the job
The sonographer will be independently responsible for carrying out and reporting on specialised ultrasound examinations to a high standard and in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines whilst being accountable for their own actions. Excellent clinical skills, experience and a post graduate ultrasound qualification are essential.
Experience across a wide range of examinations including general abdominal, gynaecological, obstetrics and DVT is essential. Small parts and/or MSK experience would be an advantage.
Please note that applicants who are successfully shortlisted will be required to attend an on-site face-to-face interview. It is essential that all candidates need to hold a PG Dip in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent, awarded from a CASE accredited UK University. Registration with HCPC is essential.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
