An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed theatre practitioner to work as part of the Christie NHS Foundation Trust in the Surgical Theatre team.  With a focus of developing, delivering, and managing education across the theatre department, the Theatre Educator will be primarily responsible for the teaching and learning of students and apprentices.

As Theatre Educator, you must have an excellent knowledge of practice education and current perioperative practice. The postholder must be an experienced, mentor, supervisor or assessor.

The post holder will be supporting students/trainees in practice and ensuring their learning objectives are met. The post will also include, supporting theatre staff in mandatory and essential training for their role and development including organising and facilitating medical device training and clinical skills assessments within the education team.

Excellent communication skills and IT skills are essential, and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate and sustain new and innovative ways of working which facilitate developments in theatre practice.

You must be an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) or a NMC registered Nurse (Adult). Theatre experience is essential. Oncology experience is desired.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Main Duties

·       To support the development of students (nurses/ODPs/Apprenticeships) during their clinical practice journey. This will involve ensuring clear processes are established to support their development and progress throughout the programme.

·       Support Student placements by organising students’ shifts as well as assessors and supervisors according to their learning needs.

·       Provide continuous support to the assessor, supervisor, mentors and preceptors

·       To lead on the increase of the clinical placement capacity with colleagues to ensure a quality learning experience

·       To act as the named person in the organisation for Approved Education Institutes (AEI’s), regarding clinical placement provision.

·       To support the development of post-registration students in practice through the implementation of clinical supervision programmes in collaboration with clinical colleagues.

·       Assist the students to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for practice within the clinical environment

·       Use highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic and a commitment to research/ evidence-based practice.

·       Work with the senior leadership team to identify strategies for practice development.

·       Promote and incorporate research/evidence-based practice within the clinical setting.

·       Support SCE while leasing with the different training providers from School of Oncology to outside educational organisations.

·       The clinical facilitator will act as a professional role model for students and Staff.

 

2. Training

·       Support the staff in practice, facilitating reflective practice and providing day to day support.

·       Ensure all theatre practice is within both the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

·       Support staff to develop and maintain competence in agreed basic and advanced clinical skills.

·       Acquire and provide expert advice and training on appropriate aspects of medical devices across all areas of the department.

·       To identify own learning needs and ensure own professional development is maintained by keeping up-to-date with practice developments.

·       To undertake further training as relevant to the role and service requirements such us medical devices and clinical skills to support the senior team in auditing and evaluating theatre practice.

·       Responsible for acquiring/ensuring access to resources to support learning.

·       Support on the development and implementation of grade specific teaching programmes. This will include teaching and delivering presentations.

 

3. Managerial

·       To manage time appropriately in order to achieve aims and objectives of the department, directorate, division and Trust services plans, in conjunction with the Team Manager & Theatre Manager.

·       To help enforce the training compliance for the department staff working with the senior team to keep the database updated.

·       To feedback regularly and consistently to the senior leadership team

 

4. Professional

·       To always act in a professional manner.

·       To have knowledge of and adhere to the Trust policies and professional standards.

·       To demonstrate a professional approach to work and act in accordance with both the HCPC and NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.

·       To meet NMC/ODP registration and updates requirements.

 

5. Clinical Governance

·       Develop alongside the Senior leadership teamSenior leadership teamand clinical staff, a positive learning environment for all grades of staff.

·       Support with audit and quality assurance across all the department’s areas

·       Develop a system of feeding back learning from study days in a structured manner.

·       Be responsible for developing research-based practice and supporting staff to ensure that their practice is evidence based.

·       In conjunction with the senior leadership team undertake audit of education and clinical practice annually and as required following changes to practice development for projects.
