Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dedicated midwife to join our team as the Ward Manager in Clayton Ward Maternity Unit.

Main duties of the job

  • The Ward Manager is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based women centred midwifery care while fostering a positive and supportive working environment.
  • The role involves providing strong clinical leadership to the Clayton Ward team, overseeing the day to day running of the ward and coordinating care for private and amenity patients.
  • Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary colleagues and Matrons, the post holder will ensure safe, effective care and positive patient experience.
  • As an expert clinical midwife, they will also offer specialist advice and guidance to support the care of women, pregnant people and their families.

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Midwifery degree or equivalent
  • Mentorship or full SSSA preparation
  • Registered Midwife (on NMC register)
Desirable criteria
  • Has attained or is working towards a management qualification.
  • Leadership qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject area or working towards this
  • Examination of the new-born

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience >3years,
  • Experience in a range of settings including labour ward.
  • Parent education experience
  • Previous mentorship experience
  • Experience in change management
Desirable criteria
  • Project management experience
  • Patient experience initiatives
  • Caseload experience

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience in supervision of trained staff.
  • Clinically competent.
