An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and motivated Paediatric Specialist Nurse in Inherited Bleeding Disorders to join Childrens Services within Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
The post will involve working on the in-patient wards, assessment units and patient’s homes and schools throughout the Health Board and be instrumental in the delivery and development of the existing Haematology and Haemophilia service, working with the existing nursing and medical teams both within the Health Board and Alder Hey hospital.
We are seeking a nurse with excellent up to date specialist clinical knowledge and skills, including non-medical prescribing qualification and experience. Some experience of implementing changes within services would be beneficial.
The Haematology/Haemophilia Paediatric Specialist Nurse is key to the co-ordination of the service within Betsi Cadwaladr health Board. The role will involve liaising regularly with healthcare professionals across health care settings within North Wales and our tertiary centre in Alder Hey.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Nurse Specialist works across BCUHB within a clinical specialty acting in the roles of practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher, leader/change agent and care coordinator/case manager in the pursuit of clinical excellence and improved health outcomes. Provides all aspects of nursing care and general support to children and young people with IBD ensuring a seamless service between hospital and community services.
Clinical practice is central to the Clinical Nurse Specialist role, however in order to influence and improve nursing practice it is essential the role is underpinned by the competencies as outlined in the job description below. To develop this service and undertake regular audit activity to assess effectiveness and make recommendations.
The IBD Nursing Service forms part of the shared care arrangements established between the Tertiary Centre (based at Alder Hey Hospital, London) and BCUHB.
This position includes a clinical workload. Maintains the link between Primary and Acute Care, Social Services and Education.

Provide expert nursing knowledge in the management of patient care within a defined area of speciality practice, working with the patient, family or other health professionals to provide timely nursing care to optimise outcomes.
Uses advanced health assessment skills in the assessment of patients and critiques own practice to maintain clinical competence. registered staff (depending on level of experience) in the delivery of the nursing team.
Prescribes advanced evidence-based nursing interventions, diagnostic measures, equipment, procedures and treatments to meet the needs of patients, families and groups in accordance with professional preparation, institutional polices and scope of practice.
Role models expert evidence based clinical practice, is seen as highly effective, progressive and knowledgeable.
Guides and supports others in the speciality in their assessment, clinical decision-making, implementation, evaluation and documentation of care.
Provides leadership, role models and guides others in nursing practice.
Networks nationally to identify and implement nursing advances and changes in practice. Identifies opportunities for general health / wellness education.

Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (child) with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
- Post registration experience working either within the clinical speciality or relevant senior nursing role.
- Holds or is actively working towards a relevant Post-graduate Degree, Degree to be completed within an agreed timeframe
- Demonstrate nursing skills comparable to senior nurse working at this level.
- Demonstrate skills in nursing leadership.
- Current issues for nursing and health in Wales.
- Current government policies, codes, guidelines, and legislation impacting on area of speciality.
- Current nursing professional standards and codes.
- BCUHB current vision, goals and objectives.
