Job overview

Band 8b Macmillan Nurse Consultant in Breast Cancer

The Berkshire Cancer Centre are excited to advertise for a new senior Nurse Consultant to clinically lead our breast oncology service.

This is a new role which has been developed in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Care.

This full-time Band 8b post is pivotal to the continued development of our breast service to meet the needs of our population over the next 5-10 years.

We are looking to employ a senior, experienced breast specialist nurse with a proven record of leadership, change management and innovation with a prescribing qualification.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve independent autonomous clinical practice and oversight of a patient caseload. In addition, we would want the post holder to take a strategic lead on developing and expanding our breast nursing services.

We have a very well developed breast cancer multidisciplinary team which includes dedicated oncologists, breast surgeons, clinical nurse specialists, surgical nurse practitioners, a support worker, and an oncology pharmacist.

We manage an open access follow-up programme for people with breast cancer and this role takes a clinical and governance lead for this programme.

We have also developed a thorough and successful Endocrine service, consisting of a workshop and regular clinics. This post takes a lead on this service.

The Berkshire Cancer Centre has a strong clinical management team and we are committed to supporting the successful applicant to maintain the role as one of national significance.

We would welcome informal visits from interested candidates.

Working for our organisation

Inequality exists and the journey to eliminate it is not easy. Every step we take will be a purposeful step forward to deliver a truly inclusive culture where all our people are enabled to deliver outstanding care, where background is no barrier, and where everyone can be their authentic self and we truly represent our patient community.

We are committed to equal opportunities and welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of any protected characteristics. Reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants where possible. All applicants who have a disability and meet the minimum criteria for the post can opt for a guaranteed interview.
