Job overview

The Jim Shahi unit is a day case unit for cardiology interventional procedures and provides a 24/7 Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention service. the Royal Berkshire has been a top performer consistently with a regard to Call to Balloon times and Door to Balloon times.

The day case unit has two bays consisting of spaces for 8 patients in each bay.

The unit performs the below procedures

1. Angiograms/ angioplasty

2. Devices : Permanent Pacemakers, CRT P, CRT D,  Left bundle pacing , His pacing , Nurse Led linq devices.

3. Electrophysiology studies 

4.  Temporary Pacing 

5. Pericardiocentesis 

6.  Brugada testing 

7. DC cardioversions

8 Trans oesophagus echocardiograms

Our department is committed to delivering a high standard of patient care and we are seeking experienced Cath Lab Nurses to join our Team.

 

The nursing team will rotate between the two catheter labs and  recovery areas. We also within the Jim Shahi Unit care for patients that require day case frusemide infusions and patients requiring IV fluids pre CT scans. 

Within the last year we run a Cardiac Ambulatory Day Case unit on certain days for patients that require urgent review by a Cardiologist.

In the role of the Senior staff nurse it will be expected to cordinate the unit on a day to day basis and we look forward to new members of staff joining our experienced team.

 

You will be expected to be able to fulfil the on call requirement for the Cath Lab 

Main duties of the job

Responsible for providing clinical and managerial support to the ward manager and the junior team

Responsible for providing education , mentoring and supervision to appropriate staff members 

Expected to be fully competent in the clinical skills required to work in the Cath Lab ( competent as a scrub nurse to work on the on call rota and proficient at running the day unit 

To provide leadership and a vision to the department 

To be able to report , escalate and investigate incidents at ward level and develop appropriate action plans if required

We work very closely with whole cardiology department which consists of the Jim Shahi Unit, Cardiac Care Unit , Whitley ward ( stepdown cardiology) and the cardiology department. 

 

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post-holder works as a skilled practitioner and is responsible for the delivery of patient-focused programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of the client group in his/her clinical area.
  • The post-holder ensures the smooth running of the Ward/Department in the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, and provides clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff.

 

  • The post-holder is will be required to be a fully trained scrub in all cardiac procedures

 

  • The post-holder is expected to continue to be a part of the on-call rota.

 

  • The post-holder is expected to work closely with cardiac care unit (CCU) to provide staffing support.
