Job overview
In this role you will be part of the team responsible for providing the Trust’s Maternity Specialist Infant Feeding service. You will support families with infant feeding with the specialist team. This could be within the specialist infant feeding clinic, group drop in support, parent education or support on the ward. The team currently work Monday-Friday.
You’ll work with the team to enhance service provision in alignment with UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards, supporting the BFI accreditation journey. You will contribute to service evaluation and change management to continually improve the service. You’ll assist in the provision of training, guidelines and other tools to support staff knowledge and skills in order to facilitate an excellent service.
Main duties of the job

Know and work in accordance with the BFI standards, acting as an example of good practice and supporting others to do the same.

Have a robust knowledge of protocols, policies and procedures, particularly in relation to infant feeding. Be able to support staff to understand the associated evidence and background behind guidance and its rationale.

Triage referrals to the service and organise effective support.

Provide intensive specialist infant feeding support to families throughout the perinatal period across both inpatient and outpatient maternity settings.

Be open to becoming a tongue tie practitioner

Demonstrate the ability to publicly assess and devise safe and appropriate plans of care for families with complex feeding challenges and work with the MDT to practice safely, advocate for families and protect breastfeeding.

Take on difficult conversations and demonstrate excellent communication skills.

Educate staff regarding infant feeding, supporting PROMPT, Clinical Update Day and the Breastfeeding and Building Relationship workshop.

Support parent education.
