Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Scrub Team. This is an exciting development opportunity for a registered professional. Training will be provided with a supernumerary, protected, full competency programme for the successful candidate.

Full-time and Part-time posts are available at Band 5 within the Scrub Team. This is open to novice or experienced Practitioners who would like a new challenge.  Full competency-based training will be provided and supported by mentors within the department as well as our Health Board Practice Educators.

Main duties of the job

A Registered Practitioner who will support the perioperative team by providing skilled assistance in Scrub.

An ability to apply theory to practice to provide a high standard of perioperative care to all patients, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.

Able to work as a member of the operating team. Once fully competent this will include an out-of-hours and on call commitment.

Once competent, be able to lead a team in an operating theatre utilising excellent communication skills to ensure efficiency and expediency whilst maintaining safe and effective care.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Current Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) OR Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
  • Registered General Nurse OR Registered Operating Departmental Practitioner
  • Commitment to undertake an appropriate course of study
  • To have a knowledge and understanding of all surgical specialities within the operating department
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma in theatre perioperative practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of experience use of equipment and materials
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration experience
  • Relevant experience in all specialities General/Orthopaedic/Gynae/Urology/Trauma
  • Experience in the supervision / teaching of students, support staff and others
