Job overview
Theatres are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior ODP / Deputy Sister (Band 6) to support the Orthopaedic team within Theatres at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust .
The Theatres complex at Dorset County Hospital includes Main Theatres (8 Theatres), Day Surgery Unit (2 Theatres), Weymouth Community Hospital (1 Theatre) as well as the Procedure Room at South Walks House.
We currently have a vacancy for a committed and enthusiastic individual to manage an established team in delivering high quality care that is rapidly adapting to meet the needs of a diverse local population.
Successful applicants should have previous experience in leading Orthopaedics within Theatres, good communication skills and enjoy working in a swiftly changing and challenging environment. You will be required to work as part of a motivated team as well as being able to work on own initiative. Main Theatres operates a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week service and staff are expected to work nights and weekends. The applicant will work predominately in Main Theatres but will be expected to work in Day Surgery, Weymouth or South Walks, depending on the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job
- To provide skilled specialist assistance in the delivery of high quality, cost effective patient care throughout the Operating Department.
- To participate as an integral member of the theatre team giving leadership and guidance to less experienced staff.
- Participate in the Theatre Co-ordinator rota when required.
- Please note that Theatres is a 24 hour/ 7 day per week service and the post will be expected to work nights and weekends.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse or NVQ Level III Operating Department Practitioner
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Recognised teaching and assessing qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of multidisciplinary team leadership.
- Extensive relevant experience in Orthopaedic Service
Desirable criteria
- Involvement in staff development/training with evidence of proactive teaching/assessing
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of ability to practice as a current, competent, and proficient practitioner
- Demonstrates evidence of ability to manage time effectively in a flexible and adaptable manner.
- Understanding of clinical governance and ability to assist in establishing systems to support this process
- Demonstrates ability to work under pressure and utilise problem solving skills to deal with unpredictable service requirements.
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates awareness of necessity to maintain service with due regard to financial constraints.
