Take the next step in your nursing career and make a real difference to the lives of children and young people. Join our Paediatric Epilepsy and Neurodisability Service, where your work is meaningful, your input is valued and no two days are the same.

You will provide expert nursing care, clinical leadership and specialist support to children and young people aged 0–18 living with epilepsy and neurodisability. Working both autonomously and as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, including Neurodisability Consultants and Specialist Nurses, you will support patients to thrive beyond their diagnosis.

A key part of the role is supporting families to manage complex conditions at home wherever possible, tailoring care to individual needs, optimising medication, and prioritising quality of life. The role is varied and rewarding, including nurse-led clinics, first seizure safety education, emergency medication training, and support for transition to adult services. You will also work closely with learning disability and adult epilepsy teams to ensure seamless care. The role focuses on five key areas of intervention across the child and young person’s pathway:

Diagnosis – supporting families through the diagnostic process with clear communication, guidance, and appropriate signposting during what can be a complex and emotional time.

Deterioration of condition – acting as a first point of contact for concerns or changes in a child’s condition, ensuring timely assessment, advice, and escalation where required.

Acute admission – maintaining continuity of care during hospital admissions, supporting communication between teams, and contributing to safe and timely discharge planning.

End of life – providing compassionate, coordinated support for children and families, ensuring dignity, comfort, and high-quality holistic end-of-life care.

Transitional care – supporting safe and effective transitions between neonatal, paediatric, tertiary, and adult services.

Across all areas, you will act as an expert resource for families, carers, and professionals, delivering specialist education, contributing to service development, and ensuring evidence-based, high-quality care.

Our service is a collaborative, multidisciplinary team comprising a Neurodisability Medical Team of eight clinicians (three with a specialist interest in epilepsy) and a dedicated Epilepsy & Neurodisability Nursing Team, including one Band 7 Lead Nurse Specialist and two Band 6 Nurse Specialists. 

The service operates across Cheltenham General, Gloucestershire Royal and community hospitals throughout Gloucestershire, delivering a range of specialist clinics including dedicated epilepsy clinics (including first seizure clinics), nurse-led epilepsy clinics, and consultant neurodisability clinics supported by Nurse Specialists. 

The team works closely with acute paediatrics, community services, therapy teams, education providers, and tertiary centres to ensure integrated, patient-centred care. We are a small, friendly team working Monday to Friday, with a strong focus on maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
