Job overview
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity to expand its clinical nurse specialist team. The Clinical Nurse Specialist role as a keystone to the optimal care of our patients and to the success of our Trust working in conjunction with the MDT. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate care is the most important objective for the organisation. Rheumatology operates across all Trust sites, including outpatients in Basingstoke, Winchester, Alton and Andover.
Main duties of the job
The delivery of an outpatient service by the team or area for which you have responsibility. This includes:
· Being an expert professional adviser.
· Delivering education to the multi-disciplinary team.
· Assessment and treatment of own caseload of patients.
· Leading on the assessment of highly complex patients, where factors may be conflicting, requiring high level analysis and interpretation skills and the comparison of a range of options to achieve effective treatment.
· Developing the above skill set with the staff who report to you or whom you have a responsibility to train.

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree BSc (Hons) or equivalent experience
- NMC registration or HCPC
- Significant rheumatology experience
Desirable criteria
- Willing to work towards MSC in advanced clinical practice
- QI practitioner qualification and undertaking of methodology
- Independent prescriber
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of wide range of rheumatological conditions and the management and support in caring for these patients.
- Utilises current evidence and best practice in all areas of practice
- To use advanced expertise and clinical skills to assess patients’ individual needs and promote self-management through patient education
- Ability to initiate patient treatment plans
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of managing and developing rheumatology services and nursing teams, and service improvement initiatives
- Experienced in the management of specific rheumatology conditions such as the connective tissue diseases and vasculitis
Skills and Ability
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills
- Critically analyse challenges and be pro-active in developing potential solutions
- Undertake research and development and audit.
- Ability to educate and support the professional development of other staff members.
- Understanding and management of challenges to service improvement
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of financial and budgetary management to support service improvements and drive CIP schemes.
