Endoscopy Health Care Assistant

The successful candidate will support the Endoscopy clinical team in providing excellent standards of patient care in line with local and national guidance. 

At the Blackburn site we see patients for planned and unplanned care having ERCP, EUS, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy and Gastroscopy procedures.   

We also provide care on an emergency basis to inpatients which sometimes involves mobilising equipment and working in ICU and Theatres to ensure our patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time.   

There will be the occasional requirement to work flexibly at our Burnley Endoscopy Units to cover if necessary.

After full induction and training the role will involve preparing the clinical area prior to the start of the list to ensure equipment is in good working order and recording this by checklist completion. 

Once trained, the post holder will be assisting with a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on a daily basis. 

There is a requirement to pay attention to detail and work with utmost accuracy as the post holder will contribute to obtaining, storing and transporting tissue samples to the laboratory for analysis along with some emergency cases.   

At the end of the list, the post holder will assist to ensure all equipment is cleaned down, documentation and checklists are completed accurately, tissue samples dispatched to the laboratory and that the room is cleaned, restocked, prepared and ready for the next day.

The role will be mainly working in procedure rooms as an assistant to the Endoscopist with rotation into the recovery area and some housekeeping duties.  Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills are a necessity. 

Duties;

Attend Safety Huddles. 

1) Set up and prepare the room for the day ensuring all equipment is in good working order, reporting any discrepancies to the team leader

2)Participate in nationally required clinical safety standard checks for each patient/procedure

3)Assist the Endoscopist and Nursing Staff in the procedure room; some procedures are carried out in xray and require the use of lead PPE

4) Maintenance and monitoring of stock levels and rotation of consumables to ensure patient safety and cost effectiveness 

5)Assist with transfer of patients on a trolley around the department and to wards
