Job overview

Are you an experienced midwife with strong leadership skills who is passionate about delivering high-quality, woman-centred care in antenatal services?

We are offering an exciting internal secondment opportunity for a motivated and dynamic individual to step into the role of Midwifery Team Leader for the Antenatal Clinic and Fetal Medicine Unit.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop leadership experience at Band 7, working closely with the wider maternity leadership team to ensure the smooth running of antenatal and fetal medicine services.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide visible, supportive leadership for the antenatal clinic and fetal medicine midwifery team.
  • Support the safe, effective, and compassionate delivery of antenatal care in line with national standards and trust priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with obstetric, fetal medicine, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
  • Manage day-to-day operational activity, including staffing, workload prioritisation, and escalation of concerns.
  • Drive service improvements and innovation that enhance patient experience and reduce health inequalities.
  • Support the professional development, wellbeing, and retention of midwifery staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a midwife who can demonstrate:

  • Current NMC registration and substantial post-registration experience.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Confidence in decision-making and managing clinical and operational challenges.
  • A commitment to delivering high standards of personalised care and supporting women and families through complex pathways.
  • Experience in antenatal or fetal medicine services (desirable, but not essential—training will be supported).

Essential criteria
  • NMC registrant
  • substantial post-registration clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • experience in antenatal complex care or fetal medicine
  • BSc or MSc in midwifery
  • practice assessor
  • Experience working in a variety of clinical settings including either ANC or community
  • understands current national agenda
  • has experience of managing people in the absence of their team leader
  • can conduct clinical audits and present the findings
  • Has successfully implemented a change or QI project

  • IT skills - able to use Excel, word, MS teams and powerpoint
