Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for permanent a Staff Nurse position within the Endoscopy Department, which is a JAG Accredited department.
The Endoscopy staff nurse is expected to support the senior staff in development of the service, showing professional & personal development. It is essential that the post holder can work within a diverse team, provide autonomous decision making and be aware of their limitations in accordance with NMC. The role involves the ability to integrate, communicate, support and be a role model to a wide multi-disciplinary group in a centre of excellence.
The Endoscopy department has three procedure rooms for all endoscopy procedures and is extremely efficient with an excellent productivity record .
We are looking for someone who has the motivation, drive and commitment to help deliver an outstanding endoscopy service. You will work as a professional role model, demonstrating flexibility, excellent communication skills and an ability to work as part of team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the team leader responsible for providing effective Endoscopy Services;
Acting as the patient’s advocate supporting them to navigate and make informed choices at all stages;
To be aware of the need to adhere to the Trust’s policy on valuing equality and diversity in the workplace, which incorporates the patients’ / visitors’ and staff perspective;
The post holder will provide a high standard of nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of patient care.
Maintain contemporary detailed nursing documentation, documenting the condition and progress of the patient and report to medical staff an/or senior nursing staff any areas of concern.
Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with the agreed Trust policies and guidelines.
To carry out all relevant forms of care under supervision and when proficient demonstrate procedures of care supervise junior qualified and / or unqualified staff including student nurses whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
Understand and support Pathway to Excellence philosophy and standards.
The post holder will work closely with the nursing team, health care assistants, wider endoscopy team including the pre assessment team, colorectal team, pathology, radiology and cancer services in the trust and have a strong clinical commitment to the Endoscopy service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be responsible for your own professional development, maintain a professional portfolio and keep up to date on current nursing and health service issues.
To take full responsibility for your own actions and abide by the NMC Code of Conduct 2015. To revalidate with NMC in line with governing body requirements.
Maintain own knowledge and clinical skills demonstrating competence in delivering a high standard of care. Supervising the assessing, planning implementation and evaluation of patient care, thus providing high standard of patient care at all times.
To successfully complete and maintain Band 5 competencies and demonstrate compliance through annual appraisal.
Demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skills to manage infection prevention principles, including the use of personal protective equipment.
Promote a healthy, positive and safe environment for patients and staff.
assisting the manager in facilitating the teaching, mentoring and assessment of staff and other disciplines.
Ensure that nursing practice reflects current clinical development and is based on sound evidence.
Provide skilled assistance in all areas of endoscopy.
Undertake nurse - led discharge following locally agreed guidelines and protocols.
Participate in the on-call service for out of hours emergency endoscopy.
Assist in the delivery of the Bowel screening Programme.
Participate in pre operative assessments of patients.
Be an active and approachable role model.
Have a smart appearance, hence adhering to the trust's uniform policy.

Educations,Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration
- Educated to degree level or equivalent level of education, training or experience in health/nursing related studies
- Evidence of commitment to revalidation as per NMC requirements
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of delivering nursing care to a group of patients
- Understanding of delivering nursing care to a group of patients
Desirable criteria
- Endoscopy experience
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstration of team work and ability to work effectively as a team
- Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care
- Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload and recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations
