Job overview

An exciting opportunity to gain experience working within the Surgery Division in a secondment as a Matron. The secondment will be for 6 months.

For this role we are looking for an experienced senior nurse who would like to increase their skills and knowledge to provide leadership across the surgical wards to oversea the delivery of safe compassionate high-quality care and to ensure quality standards are achieved.

The Matron role is key to an effective, high performing, fully engaged team. The breadth of the role requires excellent communication, management, leadership, as well as education and teaching skills.

The successful applicant will support an experienced team of Band 7 Senior Sisters and Clinical Nurse Specialists working with the Critical Care, Outpatient and Theatre Matrons to support the Divisional and Deputy Heads of Nursing for Surgery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be accountable to the Head of Nursing for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within wards and departments for which they are responsible, delivery of the Matrons 10 key responsibilities, and ensuring the principles of clinical governance and quality improvement are implemented at a local level.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • 2 years at a senior level in nursing ( band 7)
  • Experience in a senior clinical role within last 3 years
  • First Degree in Nursing or subject related to health care
Desirable criteria
  • Masters level study or willing to undertake this level of study
  • Experience in organisational leadership, leading change and service improvement
  • Experience in contribution to strategic service planning
