Job overview
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Staff Nurse to develop existing and new skills in Critical Care by joining our established critical care team, working on both the Intensive Therapy Unit and High Dependency Unit. The post holder will be supported by an excellent education programme to learn and develop critical care skills and complete a robust induction and in-house training programme. The post is full-time, and will be required to work a minimum of 30hrs per week.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry out nursing duties in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and ensure all Professional Standards and Trust Policies are complied with.
The post holder will work under the direction of the departmental leaders in critical care to ensure a high standard of nursing care and treatments are delivered to critically patients and their families.
The post holder will develop and demonstrate necessary skills in Critical care nursing, and will be supported with clinical supervision, clinical education and achieving critical care national competencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Provide high-level professional and compassionate care to critically ill patients.
· Demonstrate the use of evidence-based specialist skills and practice in the care of the critically ill patient.
· Demonstrate clinical competence when assisting with the care of the critically ill patient.
· Demonstrate effective communication within the team and deliver effective communication to patients, relatives and carers.
· Ensuring an approach to care which recognises the needs and views of patients and their loved ones, which places the patient at the centre of all activities.
· Ensuring an approach to care which minimises clinical risk and maximises clinical effectiveness.
· Ensuring that Infection Control and Prevention procedures are always adhered to.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First Level registered nurse (RGN)
- NMC registered
- Health related degree or advanced diploma
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate registration in critical care
- Completed STEP 1 competencies
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in caring for patients in an acute healthcare setting
- Experience in the care of a deteriorating patient
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in critical care and caring for the critically ill patient
