Job overview
Endoscopy are looking to recruit a full time Scope Co-ordinator to join their friendly team. The Unit is JAG accredited, delivering an endoscopy service which will require the successful candidate to work flexibly to cover a 7-day service, including evening and weekend working. This very busy department provides care for both inpatients and outpatients, performing a range of procedures including upper and lower endoscopy (Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy, Bronchoscopy and ERCP).
Main duties of the job
Previous Endoscopy and/or Decontamination experience is desirable for this post, although the successful candidate will be supported to develop the required knowledge and skills which will enable them to cover all elements of the job description, which includes escorting patients to and from inpatient areas, delivering and collecting endoscopes to and from the Endoscopy Unit and the Endoscopy Decontamination Unit (EDU), ensuring the efficient operation of the Endoscopy Unit. The post holder will play a key role in managing the Synergy Track system, logging endoscopes into and out of the Endoscopy Drying Cabinets correctly, ensuring safe storage and traceability. In addition, the post holder will also be responsible for ensuring broken equipment and/or scopes are removed for return, repair or disposal, and arrangements made for collection.
The job role will include general duties within the endoscopy unit which will include helping with non-clinical duties, including the delivery of samples and specimens to the Histology Department and provision of training for staff re how to takeout scopes from the Endoscopy Drying Cabinets.
The successful candidate will need to possess good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate initiative. A proactive approach to improving standards of patient care and contributing to the delivery of patient care by working with the Endoscopy Unit Leader and all members of the nursing team is essential.
