Job overview

An opportunity has arisen  to join  Chesterfield Royal Hospital as a Maternity Assistant within our Antenatal Outpatients Department

The post holder will support and assist midwives in the delivery of holistic, high quality; evidence based antenatal and postnatal care to women and their families.

The post holder will undertake unsupervised aspects of care and therapeutic intervention as delegated by the midwife, within agreed guidelines and sphere of responsibility.

 

Main duties of the job

This role provides support to Midwives ensuring that women receive high standards of maternity care throughout our service.

You must possess excellent communication and team working qualities with a willingness to learn new skills, with full training and support provided, and also have the ability to work under your own initiative and  as part of the multi-professional team.
The post holder will be required to work  a shift pattern that covers  Monday - Friday and Bank holidays

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English Grades A-C, Levels 4-9, Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health care or equivalent experience
  • Commit to undertake in-house training / professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Care Certificate
  • Venepuncture, cannulation and ECG training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of being able to work alone / under in-direct supervision
  • Recent NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues
  • Outpatients experience an advantage

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to organise and prioritise own workload
  • IT literate
  • Knowledge of maternity care/services
  • Knowledge of role of the Maternity assistant
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Baby Friendly Initiative.
  • Understanding of the role and own professional boundaries
