Lead Research Midwife - STARshiP Trial Coordination

Band 7

Job overview

Are you interested in an exciting career in clinical research?

We are looking for an experienced Research Midwife to set-up and coordinate multiple sites in the STARshiP trial, a major new clinical study of first trimester screening for pre-eclampsia. The individual will work with a high level of autonomy, taking delegated responsibility from the Chief Investigator to implement the study objectives. The post holder will be primarily home-based with occasional working at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and employed for 0.8WTE.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will liaise with the Chief Investigators and Sponsor (Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit) to oversee the management and delivery of the trial protocol at multiple sites across North England and the East Midlands, and leading implementation of the study in Greater Manchester, North West Coast and Cheshire East. They will be involved in ensuring that the research undertaken safeguards the well-being of patients and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines. They will also be responsible for delivering comprehensive and appropriate training to ensure patients are screened appropriately and that the study delivers the best evidence to guide a future screening strategy.

In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary STARshiP team, they will ensure data collection is to its highest standards, facilitating the production of good quality research. The post holder will be required to travel to sites as necessary, taking on a leadership role in organising and managing a team of clinical research midwives to oversee the delivery of the trial protocol. Relationships with senior midwifery staff and the trial team at Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit will be key to success.
