Job overview

The Research and Innovation centre at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has a exciting post for Band 6 Clinical Research Nurse . The Primary aim of this post is to bring about greater access for research in order to provide a unique and enviable framework to enhance delivery of world class research.

They will embark on a programme of dual training for both Oncology and Haematology systemic anticancer treatments.  They must be motivated and willing to undergo training in the Haematology and chemotherapy fields.

As an Clinical Research Nurse you will be responsible for supporting the Advanced Research Nurse  and Lead for the Early phase and ECMC portfolio  in ensuring that our service users’ needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centered approach to their independence and well-being.

You will have a dual base location at CCC Wirral and CCC Liverpool 

As we deliver treatments in sector hubs and clinics across the Wirral and Liverpool, there will an element of cross cover required during training and once training has been completed. 

 

Main duties of the job

There are 2 exciting opportunity in the roles of a Clinical Research Nurse 


The post holder will work alongside the  band 7 Advanced Research Nurse and  research team in order to  co-ordinate a portfolio of commercial, non – commercial and Experimental Cancer Medicine oncology clinical trials. The role will include identifying patients through MDT’s/screening note ; collecting data; interviewing; supporting/delivering a range of complexed cancer treatment s, assessing and monitoring patients in accordance to ethically approved protocols.

The R&I directorate is a busy environment and working to deadlines with frequent interruption is the norm. Ability to work under pressure, pay close attention to detail and organise the priority of own workload is absolutely essential.

Individual training will be provided to meet the needs of the post-holder.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Level One registration or other professional equivalent
  • Graduate level qualification in relevant discipline, be working towards one or be prepared to study at this level
  • Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development
  • Chemotherapy trained in either oncology or haematology, or willing to undertake a period of training
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in oncology and/or clinical research

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships
  • Has a working knowledge of the purpose of clinical research.
Desirable criteria
  • Has a basic knowledge of recent NHS legislation and recommendations in the field of cancer and palliative care
  • Knowledge of ICH GCP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working autonomously and part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of collaborating with other agencies
  • Previous experience within the oncology/haematology nursing setting, or experience in research
