The Medical day unit’s main purpose is the assessment and treatment of patients referred to hospital via their GP and those referred to the medical team from the ED department.
We also run an Acute Medical Same Day Emergency Care (AMSDEC) service for those patients that can go home on the same day following diagnostics and treatment or bring them back to our returner’s clinic for further assessment or diagnostics. We aim to run this service solely following the upcoming reconfiguration of the unit.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing emergency care environment and also the prospect of working on other acute medical wards if MDU does not have the need to be bedded.
We are currently looking to recruit a Band 5 Staff Nurses for the Medical Day Unit within the Emergency Assessment Unit on night shifts and on some occasion’s long days.
The working hours are 2000-0830 for the night shifts and 0800-2030 & 1000-2230 for the long days; an 11.5 hour shift.
This appointment be to the Medical Day Unit, however if the unit is un-bedded you will be redeployed within the Medicine division.
We would welcome candidates with experience within acute medical settings who are keen to progress their career within the Urgent care division. The successful candidate will hold a current professional registration; have excellent communication skills and the ability to remain professional under pressure.
We need nurses who are open to the challenges brought about by change and who are committed to creative partnerships. You will need to be responsive to the fluctuating demands typical of the emergency environment and show a willingness to undertake extended roles.
We are looking for individuals who are keen to develop and deliver excellent clinical care. You must be motivated to drive forward and improve the services for the population of Colchester and surrounding area.
