Main duties of the job

We are a very busy major trauma unit, covering a very diverse population we are looking for self-motivated nurses to help take the department forward – you must be committed, flexible and approachable

You will be supported by diverse and innovative Senior Nursing Team along with a team of Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and Practice Educators. We have a team of very supportive Consultants whom we work alongside every day.

 

 

Working for our organisation

Our Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital provides care for both adults and children who attend with serious illness or injury. Due to our large catchment area, we currently provide for approximately 154,000 attendees per year. The department has an 8 bedded resuscitation and 43 major cubicles. 

The department is classified as a trauma unit and we have a purpose built helipad onsite that will bring our most serious patients to the department via North West Air Ambulance.

We have a new, state of the art staff facility for staff changing with access to a shower as well as a new staff room, education room and wellbeing retreat for all staff.

We also have 2 Urgent Care Centres that are part of the emergency department and  2 Minor Injuries Units which are located at Accrington Victoria Hospital and Rossendale Health Centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will have a suitable period of supernumerary in which you will be supported by the senior nursing team, the practice educators and a mentor, during you supernumerary period you will develop skills according to the RCN competencies that will enable you to work effectively in all areas of the department. We have a great induction programme.

The department welcomes new members of staff and has an open and friendly culture which is strongly supportive of nursing development and expansion of skills.

We value all the different experiences and qualities people can bring to our department.

Your base would be within the emergency department however your post will cover you working in all areas of the department, majors, Resus, Urgent Care and Paediatrics and you may be asked to work at the UCC at Burnley and MIU at Accrington Victoria.

Essential criteria
  • 1 st level Registered
  • Nurse Minimum 6 months Postregistration experience
  • High standards of accuracy, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ability to manage care for a group of patients and prioritise workload
  • Confident at dealing with people over the telephone and face to face
  • Ability to understand, absorb and comply with detailed procedures
  • Able to manage more than one task at once
Desirable criteria
  • Post-registration experience
