Qualified Nurse - Stroke Rehab Unit

Band 5

Job overview

Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (SRU) is a sixteen bedded unit for Salford residents who have been admitted for rehab following an acute stroke. We take patients who are forty-eight hours post stroke for rehabilitation and management of medical problems, as patients are often medically unwell in addition to their rehabilitation needs, for example with nasogastric feeding, pneumonias, cardiac problems, and psychological problems which are all common after a stroke. We have a wide range of patients with differing impairments following their stroke, from people at the end of their life to people looking to return to work and driving again. We aim for a ‘total rehabilitation’ approach with each contact from staff working towards increasing their level of independence and working towards patient centred goals. Patients are discharged back into their own home often with a package of care, into residential or nursing homes or supported living. On discharge patients can be supported by community rehabilitation teams, district nurses, bladder, and bowel services and stroke services.
