Advanced Nurse Practitioner - Chemical Pathology



Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Chemical Pathology team at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.  The post holder will be a part of a multidisciplinary (MDT) Chemical Pathology team and will be integral to an efficient and adaptable service.

The post holder will be responsible for a cohort of patients with lipid disorders, and will attend Lipid Clinics in conjunction with the Consultant Chemical Pathologist and advise patients on lifestyle interventions such as diet, exercise and smoking cessation, and keeping accurate records using computer systems. The non-medical prescriber qualification is desirable but not essential, with potential opportunity to enrol in this course as part of development within the role.

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner will work with the current team in managing the triage of referrals and Advice and Guidance queries from GP colleagues in Primary care, and offer lipid management advice which can be given in the Community. The post holder will also act as a point of contact for patients within the Patient Initiated Follow-up service, using excellent judgement skills. There could be opportunity to offer Education sessions within Primary Care.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Degree level qualification and/or evidence of continuing professional development equivalent to post-graduate diploma level
  • Any previous experience in Outpatient Nurse Specialism, Chemical Pathology or Lipids Clinics
Desirable criteria
  • Independent Non Medical Prescriber


Essential criteria
  • Minimum of two years post registration experience
